TENTH INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

International Union of economists, beginning from 1996 holds each year International Congresses on regional development. Traditionally Congresses are held in Switzerland, where are discussed the most actual questions of regional development.

Tenth jubilee Congress was held from March 30 to April 4, 2005 in Montreux, where was discussed the theme "Strategy of economic development".

During the years that passed, the Congress became an important instrument of establishing of business relations and exchange of opinions on the wide range of economic and financial cooperation, perspectives and situation in the development of the Russian economy.

Questions, which were discussed at the Congress, put the task to assist integration of the Russian Federation into the modern economic community, informing the world community about situation in economics in Russia and realization of economic programmes, application of the world experience of economic development.

Today in the Russian Federation the key economic reforms, which laid the basis of social-oriented market economy, are mainly finished. At present there is a stage of preparation of the next step of reforms, aimed at advancing of economic growth and doubling of GDP, strengthening the struggle with poverty.

In the frames of X-th International Congress on regional development was held the round table "Strategy of economic development" .G.Kh.Popov, President of IUE opened the meeting and was its chairman.

Participants of the meeting discussed the questions of economic, social policy of the state and perspectives of its development. The speakers noted, that the main mistake of Russian reforms - strict application of actual West imperatives in economic and social policy without taking into account characteristics of local reality.

The country was affected by the old disease of the Russian reforming, the sense of each is pathological syndrome of imitation, coming out of the tradition to make a fetish of social ideas of the western world. There is no traces of intentions to formulate priorities of industrial development and of rendering financial support. That was accompanied by the unusually long period of high prices on oil at the world market.

Participants of the round table noted necessity of radical changes in the ideology of reforms. The state must as soon as possible to find out priorities of innovation and industrial development and to render a big financial support.

MOISSYEEVA N.K. - Deputy director of the Institute of economics, management and law, academician of IAM, merited worker of science of RF, doctor of economic sciences, professor;

ASAUL A.N., Professor of St.-Petersburg architecture and construction university, academician of the IAM, International Academy of investments and economy of construction, academician RAEN, doctor of economic sciences, professor;

ZIMIN D.B. - Honorary President OAO "Vympelkom", President of the non-profirt foundation "Dynastia", doctor of technical sciences.

All presentations were of big interest.
