Благодарю Вас за приглашение принять участие в качестве почетного гостя в работе 15 Юбилейного Собрания членов Международного Союза экономистов.
Предыдущее Собрание МСЭ прошло в штаб-квартире ООН-ХАБИТАТ в г. Найроби (Кения). Руководители Программы по Вашему приглашению участвовали в обсуждении важнейшей для ООН √ ХАБИТАТ темы ╚Вопросы финансирования жилища и городского развития╩.
Тема 15 Юбилейного собрания ╚Стратегия социально-экономического развития стран с переходной экономикой в соответствии с целями ╚Декларации тысячелетия╩ (Нью-Йорк, США) также весьма важна. Мы в ООН √ ХАБИТАТ хорошо понимаем всю сложность переходного периода для большей части населения в этих странах, даже в наиболее успешных. Хочу выразить мое положительное отношение к подходам МСЭ по определению проблем переходного периода и улучшению условий жизни граждан в этих странах.
Позвольте пожелать успеха в работе Собрания и выразить надежду, что сотрудничество между ООН √ ХАБИТАТ и МСЭ будет расширяться таким образом, что Союз станет весьма активным и важным нашим партнером, а ООН √ ХАБИТАТ сможет в полной мере оценить выгодность такого сотрудничества, особо принимая во внимание высокий уровень квалификации специалистов √ членов МСЭ.
Пользуясь случаем, желаю Вам лично и всем членам МСЭ счастливого и удачного Нового года.

Dear Professor Popov,
Thank you very much for your invitation to be a Guest of Honour at the 15th Jubilee Meeting of the IUE.
Previous 14th Annual meeting of IUE was held here in Nairobi, where UN-HABITAT headquarters are located. A number of UN-HABITAT senior staff members participated in the meeting on "Housing and Urban Development Financing Issues", a topic of great concern to UN-HABITAT.
The topic of the forthcoming 15Ih Annual Meeting - "Strategy of Social and Economic Development in the countries with Economies in Transition in the Context of the Goals, Contained in the Millennium Declaration" to be held in New York is also very important. We in UN-HABITAT are very well aware of the hardship of transition for majority of people in those countries, even in the most successful. I would like to convey my appreciation of the efforts made my your Union to contribute to tackling the challenges of the transition and improving the living conditions of the citizens of these countries.
Let me wish full success to your Jubilee 15th Annual meeting and express a hope that in the near future co╜operation between UN-HABITAT and the IUE will enhance, that the Union will become a very active and important UN-HABITAT's partner and UN-HABITAT will be able to enjoy the benefits of this co-operation, particularly baring in mind that there are top level specialists among its members of the IUE.
I take this opportunity to wish a very Happy and Successful New Year to all members of the IUE and to you personally.
